Did you ever say to yourself – “I wish that St. John’s could…?”  Well, some exciting events are taking place over the next few weeks:  Events that have the potential to shape our future growth and will give each of us a powerful voice in the direction of the church.  Events that have the energy to blow open the doors and let the Holy Spirit continue to breathe life into St. John’s mission.

The Vestry and the Rector have commissioned a “Visioning” task group (VTG) to assess ways in which St. John’s can build a congregational infrastructure that will be as dynamic and compelling as our new building.  And, the VTG can envision no better way to do this than to empower the congregation to tell us what you need. To this end, the VTG is asking each member of the congregation to commit to two activities.

Rally Day – Parish Survey: Beginning August 28th and running for approximately two weeks, St. John’s will be asking you to complete a survey that samples your opinion about and preferences for activities in several areas of church life: Worship, Fellowship and Parish Life, Outreach and Evangelism, Children and Families, Christian Formation, Communication and Administration, and Fundraising. 

The survey may be completed online.  A link to the survey will be sent out by email no later than August 29.  Information will also be available at a special booth on Rally Day.  If you are unable to use an online format, copies of the survey will be available.  The survey is the foundation framing our future direction.  It is important that every parishioner, including our children, participate in this event.

Visioning Day: Sunday, September 18, we ask that you commit to attending Visioning Day festivities following the 10:30 service.  A light lunch will be served to entice you to stay and we will arrange childcare, if necessary.  You will participate in focus groups on different aspects of church life.  The focus groups will provide a forum for sharing your hopes, your ideas, your passion for what you and your family need, what you think would be a magnet for others, and how we can fulfill St. John’s Vision.  There will be a special Visioning focus group for our children and youth.  If you attend no other after-church event this year – make Visioning Day the one.

Following Visioning Day, the VTG will compile information about the recommendations of the Parish and produce a report that outlines how we might start taking steps towards those goals.
