Weekly Schedule of Services
and Christian Education

Please check the Upcoming Events page for exceptions to this customary schedule.

Sundays

8:00 AM -  Holy Eucharist, Rite I (Traditional Language): A quiet, contemplative, Communion service (50 minutes). There is no music or choir.

9:00 to 11:30 AM - Nursery provided for children under 5 years of age

9:15 AMChristian Education Classes for Adults (break for summer)

9:15 AM - Youth Group Meeting in the Y'ALL Building until 10:15 AM (with a break during the summer)

10:00 AM - Godly Play overlaps with the 10:15 a.m. service, but will allow the children to join their parents for communion. Godly Play takes place in the refurbished chapel area of the Parish Hall. Godly Play establishes a sacred space specifically for children, provides accessibility to both the liturgy and the shared Christian stories in a relevant context, and teaches in an experiential way that emphasizes discovery.

10:15 AM - Holy Eucharist, Rite I (Traditional Language) or Rite II (Contemporary Language), with music and Choir (60 minutes). (Young children are invited to attend the “Children's Chapel" in the Parish Hall chapel area. The children are allowed to join their parents for Communion.)  Every 5th Sunday is designated as “Youth Sunday” with Youth involvement in the prayers, readings, and contemporary music in the service.

11:30 AMCoffee, snacks, and fellowship in Parish Hall

11:45 AM - Praise worship (45 minutes). This highly musical prayer and praise worship service emphasizes an "eclectic" Morning Prayer format for the first three Sundays of the month and includes a Eucharistic service on the fourth Sunday of the month.

1:30 PM - Spanish Language Service (60 - 90 minutes with Communion). This relatively new service grew out of a partnership arrangement with the Rev. Jose Palma, Vicar of the Hispanic Episcopal Mission of San Francisco de Asís located in far south Austin. The Rev. Jose Palma and the St. John’s Rector, the Rev. Al Rodriguez, still team up each week to co-celebrate this Spanish-language service, which is currently drawing an average of 65 to 70 persons per week. The service accompanying guitar music and Spanish hymns are provided by a dedicated family group of musicians from San Francisco de Asís.

Although the majority of the people coming to this service are mostly Spanish-speaking, the Spanish language service is not intended to be a separate or distinct congregation, but one part of the St. John’s church family. We see this new Hispanic ministry at St. John’s as being especially active in providing the traditional sacraments, including Baptisms, First Communion celebrations, as well as Quinceañearas for girls celebrating their fifteen birthday.
