St John’s Episcopal Youth Community (EYC) Welcome! Thanks for checking out our page! If you have questions about St John’s EYC, you’ve come to the right place! Who makes up the EYC? Kids in 6th through 12th grade from all over the Austin area. We’re an inclusive group who’ve come together to grow in our Christian knowledge, to help our community, to learn how to follow God’s path, as well as to have a blast hanging out together! We have a lot of great Christian education opportunities this year, as well as some wonderful fellowship events! And don’t forget parents, when you bring your teens to the 9:15 education time, you can attend the Adult Education class in the parish hall. Below is some info on the curriculum we’ll be using this year, as well as details about our fellowship activities and additional resources for parents and teens. Don’t forget to check out our blog at http://stjohnseyc.blogspot.com; you can also contact Megan Flowers at StJohnsEYC@gmail.com for more information.
EYC Christian Education EYC Christian Education Schedule (printable PDF) We’re continuing our successful “Girls and Guys Bible Study” this spring semester! On the other Sunday mornings we’ll be covering a range of topics, from the seasonal (Lent, Easter, Pentecost etc.), to issues of Christian ethics and more. Check out our schedule to see what’s happening this Sunday. “Girls & Guys Bible Study” The world is one big, harsh contradiction for teenagers. Girls hear that they have unlimited potential, that they are free to define themselves. But they also hear, loud and clear, the largely commercial message that they're not beautiful enough, not thin enough, not appealing enough to people who matter. Not acceptable. As if things are any healthier in guydom! The birthright of guys is to conquer, right? Guys roll over competitors, women, and difficulties with their rugged good looks and self-sufficiency. At the same time, they're expected to be emotionally available — but please, no crying allowed. So how can girls and guys live as Christian adolescents in the real world? That’s what we’ll be discussing with “Girls & Guys Bible Study”— curriculum that gives each group exciting ways to discuss and question who they are, who they want to be, how God views them, and how they want to respond to God's perspective of them. We’ll have no nonsense, head-on discussions from a biblical perspective about the stuff that matters most to adolescent females and males:
Fellowship and Service EYC Fellowship and Service Schedule (printable PDF) Lock-in “School Begins” Celebration, the event that’s anticipated by teens, and dreaded by adults, will take place Friday January 18th. We’ll be staying up all night long, enjoying food, games, movies, and maybe even a little spiritual and religious insight. We'll be rocking from 6:30 pm to 8:30 am. Don’t miss out! February 3rd will mark our Mardi-Gras Party! We’ll be meeting in the Y’ALL building after the services end at 12:30 pm to celebrate and prepare for the coming of Lent! March 2nd the youth will participate in the annual Crop Walk sponsored by the Austin Area Interreligious Ministry. This April we’ll be continuing our tradition of serve to others by working at the Trinity Center again. Sunday the 6th we’ll meet after church at 1:30 for lunch and head downtown to pray with and to serve our neighbors. With the sun shining brightly in May, we’ll be celebrating the end of the school year in style with a pool party! The location and exact weekend date will be announced closer to the month. Fifth Sundays are Youth lead Sunday services. March 30th, June 29th, and August 31st are all Youth Sundays this year! We’ll need readers, singers, homily speakers, and more to help out!
